The 2008 Olympic Scientific Congress established organizing committee and science committee in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

The Guangzhou Olympic Scientific Congress is slated for August 1-5, a week prior to the opening of Beijing Olympic Games. The Congress is named 2008 International Convention on Science Education and Medicine in Sport.

It’s the first time for the Olympic Scientific Congress to unite four international organizations of ICSSPE (International Council of Sports Science and Education), FIMS (Federation of Medicine Science), IOC (International Olympic Committee) and IPC (International Paralympic Committee).

“It’s the first practice of four-organization combination, so it ‘s a pioneering sports science convention and a landmark in sports science history,” said Liu Peng, the president of organizing committee and State General Administration of Sport. “We should grasp the opportunity to push the international exchange and cooperation in sports science.”

Around 2,500 experts and prestigious personages on sports science are to weigh in the Congress. The organizing committee will guarantee an internationalized symposium with 1,000 foreign participants.

“The Olympic Scientific Congress possesses a comprehensive and profound influence around the world. We are aiming to stage a top-class convention with Olympic trait, Chinese characteristics and local flavor,” said Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong province.

The website of Olympic Scientific Congress was officially opened up at the organizing committee set-up ceremony.
